ABSTRACT

Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify degree and affecting factors of knowledgeand education demands toward newborn care in multi-cultural mothers. Methods: The study used a cross-sectional descriptive design and a population-based data collectionof 144 Chinese & Vietnamese mothers. The 93-item Knowledge and Education Demandstoward Newborn Care Scale translated into their mother language was used for data collection,while descriptive statistics, t test, ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were used in thedata analyses. Results: Multi-cultural mothers’ knowledge toward Newborn care was relatively high and demandtoward newborn care education was a pretty high. Country of origin, with or without children, andnewborn care experience made mothers’ knowledge and education demand toward newborn caresignificantly different. Conclusion: As the result suggested, country of origin, with or without children, and newborncare experience need to be considered when designing newborn baby care educatinal program formulti-cultural mothers.
