AB - By comprehending the alienations as inhuman situations resulting from relations, and by analyzing the correlativity between the actual 'operative modes' of alienations and the mass-produced individual 'passions' by alienations, this study tries to solve the problems of Lee Sang's self-understanding and Weltanschauung in his poetry and to explain the substances of pains arising from alienations. And to analyze the situations of alienations and the passions in his poetry, this study adopts theoretical bases such as György Lukács's concept of the 'reification(Verdinglichung)' explaining the alienations with the 'essence of commodity-structure' and Melvin Seeman's theory classifying every alienation from a sociopsychological standpoint. In Lee Sang's poetry, most women are 'prostitutes(commodities),' and men relating to them appear as men who desire, or as husbands who must tolerate, prostitutions. A wife as a prostitute defines a way of herself relating to her husband and causes herself to alienate him by participating in his desire and consciousness. This is to be a reified relational structure. To illuminate an aspect of self-alienation of the 'I(husband)' is to confirm that a problem of transfer of his right intervenes deeply in this aspect. The 'I' relating to his wife subjects himself to her lover and her as a bride by transferring already his husbandly right and qualification to them. Meanwhile, the pains of alienations become motivations triggering off specific passions, sensations, feelings, and emotions. In Lee Sang's poetry, the sensations from alienations are mainly expressed as 'extremities,' and the passions from them are often exposed as impotent sensations. By the way, these passions that Lee Sang exposes are comprehended as those containing activities involving the negation or rejection against existing values. In addition to illuminating explicitly how the reified relational structure spoils the human relationship and demotes one being's existence to the situation of non-life, the alienations and passions in Lee Sang's poetry make it a question what way can break through the situation of this tragic being. The process of reification by commodity-structure indicates compressedly ways of the moderns relating to their others. Lee Sang is a poet preoccupying this indication in his own literature.
