AB - Territorial disputes are diplomatic and military conflicts between countries over their territorial boundaries. Recently, the disputes over islands of Dokdo (Takeshima in Japanese) and Senkaku(Diaoyudao in Chinese) have been hot issues. There have been frequent confrontations over Dokdo/Senkaku between the adjacent countries. The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the tendencies in the reporting on islands of Dokdo and Senkaku in Korean newspapers. This study deals with the reporting tendencies of two major daily newspapers (Chosu Ilbo and Hankyoreh Sinmoon) and examines their points of view on the dominium problem over Dokdo and Senkaku in 2013 through content analysis. The results are listed as follows. Firstly, in the analysis of the coverage on the Dokdo issue, the news media reported more of the issues from the political frame, sociocultural frame, and political conditions on Northeast Asian frame. Meanwhile, in the analysis of the coverage on the Senkaku issue, the news media reported more issues from the political frame, political conditions on Northeast Asian frame, and military frame. Secondly, Korean newspapers showed more negative views toward Japan than China when dealing with the conflict between them owing to historical reasons related to the colonization of Japan. Thirdly, the topics of the news reports moved from inter-national conflicts to international relationships in Northeast Asia. Fourthly, the tones of the arguments on territorial disputes moved from calm response to positive action.
