ABSTRACT

This work reviews the appearances and characteristics of Sihwa in the 「Sipil」, miscellaneous records and the introduction of [ Soaepyeon] in late Chosun dynasty. I investigated the process of publication and the motivation of the writing by reviewing the contents of two authors, Im Sangwon and Im Cheon-sang. Then on the basis of the stories in 「Sipil」, it was confirmed that Im Cheon-sang wrote continuously and additionally 「Sipil」 until the year of 1803 at the very least after the year of 1788, in which he bound [ Soaepyeon] in the order of 「Gyogeo Soaepyeon」, 「Imssigaon」,「Sipil」,「Gyogeo Soaepyeon․Ha」. I found out that Sihawa about Sobuk-kye's person in late Chosun was plentifully included in 「Sipil」 written by Im Cheon-sang. 「Sipil」 included Sihwa of the several kinds of persons engaged with variation of the history of Hansi(漢詩) at late Chosun, in which the poets became diverse. In content, criticism on the excellent poems or poets, anecdotes or poems to reveal the taste for the arts and the nature of poets, poems to deserve references of chatting which was due to the eccentricity and humor, and anecdotes related to them were included. Sihwa of 「Sipil」 was strong in anecdotal nature between anecdote, criticism and a theory of a poem and also included critic nature because of addition of opinion and criticism on the excellent writings. This work, which provides abundant information on Sobuk-kye's persons among late Chosun's writers, is expected to establish and set up entirely appearance of literacy activity of Sobuk-kye's literati, on which researches of academic world have been rare, and further more a history of literature at late Chosun.
