AB - This study focuses on the view that what understand Kim Chun-su’spoetical techniques can give a clue for writing and appreciating modernpoetry. One of Kim Chun-su distinct features, ‘the poetic purity’, is deeplyrelated to the objective statement attitude. But this ‘purity’ would bepossible only if the subjective viewpoint of a poetic subject were premised. The interpretation of 「Lee Jung-seop 2」 shows the method how thecontents of the poetic narration were concealed. This indicates that the poettried to keep the objective statement attitude by securing the purity of thepoetic subject. In this poem, the poetic subject tries to escape from thesubjective statement by destroying and transforming the poetic object‘narration’ and the poetic subject ‘emotion’. 「Lee Jung-seop 4, 6, and 7」 show the childlike innocent actions. This isa method for expressing the poetic subject purity. 「Lee Jung-seop 6」 shows that the dictional purity is revealed bydestroying the poetic probability. The reality results from the close link ofpoetic images, which make the poems stay within the category of historyand sociality. 「Lee Jung-seop 8」 shows that the poetic ‘purity’ reveals the objectivestatement attitude, but this purity is based on the poet’s ‘intentional’ andsubjective judgement. 「Lee Jung-seop 3」 shows that the sudden appearance of the poetic subjectbrings the effect weakening the meaning and theme for the poems. However, this method is bound to have the inherent subjectivity of thepoetic subject. 「Lee Jung-seop 1, 2, and 4」 shows that the poetic diction can not be freefrom the poet’s subjective choice and judgment. Particularly, in thesepoems, the requesting forms are emphasized, which means that the poeticsubject exposes his will to lead his objects active. After all, Kim Chun-su’s ‘poetic purity’ is the pre-existing subjectivity ofthe poetic subject.
