ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate the gross motor function of children with cererbal palsy (CP) to provide fundamental data for therapy and intervention. 272 children (155 boys, 1170 girls) with CP participated in this cross-sectional study. Their age range was 3~18 years. The Gross Motor Function Measure and gross motor classification system was measured and analyzed. The analysis results according to distribution of CP showed that the gross motor function of quadriplegia was the lowest, and followed by triplegia, diplegia and hemiplegia. The function level of hemiplegia was the highest. The gross motor function according to type of CP was not significant. The interaction effect of age and the level of gross motor classification system was not showed by analysis of GLM. The results of regression analysis supported that the level of gross motor classification system was significant predictor of gross motor function and it showed 49.6% explained variation of gross motor function. The change of gross motor function according to age in each level of gross motor function classification system presented that the S-model was adequate for the level one. The age group of 15-17 showed significant lower gross motor function than age group of 6-8 and 9-11. The gross motor classification system have signficant effect on gross motor function of children with CP. This results would have value for development of gross motor function and prediction of change of intervention for children with CP.
