ABSTRACT

This study was to develop a education program, and teaching & learning materials of traditional Korean foods based on Health Belief Model(HBM) for elementary school students. The results were as follows. The program was composed of Fourteen sessions, in which ‘Eating the traditional Korean foods’ was the recommended behavior. Session 1 and 2 were composed of the contents increasing children’s perceived susceptibility and perceived severity, by assessing their own eating habits and understanding the severity of undesirable eating habits and obesity. Session 3 - 6 were composed of the contents increasing children’s perceived benefits of eating traditional Korean foods by learning the meanings and importance of the balanced diet, and merits of eating traditional Korean foods. Session 7 - 13 were composed of the contents increasing children’s perceived benefits and self-efficacy for eating them, and overcoming the perceived barriers by learning their kinds, characteristics and values and cooking them. Session 14 were composed of the contents maintaining children’s corrected eating behavior continuously. A Textbook and learning materials, such as book markers, a leaflet, and a accordion cookbook for traditional Korean foods, were developed to motivate learning, maintain the concern, and increase children’s perceived benefits and dietary self-efficacy. Fourteen lesson plans were developed. The guideline contained the lesson plans, teaching tips, and references.
