ABSTRACT
As the society changes, physician-patient relationship is in need of change. Especially, patient centered communication is getting emphasized to satisfy the patients and improve their relationship. A patient centered communication focuses on six principle points. : (1) exploring both the disease and the llness experience; (2) understanding the whole person; (3) finding common ground; (4) Incorporating prevention and health promotion; (5) Enhancing the patient-physician relationship (6) Being realistic. For clinical application of patient centered communication, physician should explore patient's ideas about what is wrong, their feelings, expectations of the doctor and the effect of the illness on functioning. To set an effective management plan, doctors and patients should have agreements in the nature of the problems, the goal and priorities of the problems, and the roles of doctor and patient.
