ABSTRACT

This study investigates the relationship between organizational communication, industrial relations(IR) climate, employee' trust on management, and job satisfaction, using data collected from 397 workers at 128 establishments in Changwon industrial complex. The researchers derived seven different but related hypotheses from the literature review. Regression and mediation analyses were conducted to test them, which explored the ways and mechanisms in which organizational communication, IR climate and trust influence job satisfaction, after variables including individual charaterisitcs, job and organizational characteristics being controlled for. Analyses showed a salient importance of trust as predictors of job satisfaction. While organizational communication, IR climate and trust respectively received support as predictors of job satisfaction, but when both organizational communication/industrial relations climate and trust are used to predict job satisfaction, trust remains significant. This means that the impact of organizational communication or IR climate on job satisfaction is not direct but indirect through the mediation of trust. The findings also highlight the role of organizational communication in developing trust. Implications of these findings were discussed.
