ABSTRACT

To examine the developmental characteristics of sentence structures in age 3-6 years, longitudinal data from 6 Korean children used in this study. The data were transcribed from video recordings recorded in natural production situations from the age of 3;9-6;4 years at the child's home with their mother. The results were as follows: First, the number of utterances for analysis increased with age. Second, simple sentences showed higher frequency for the upper age groups. Complex sentences with embedded clauses showed higher frequency for the upper age groups. Finally, we attempted to analyze MLU-m and MLU-w in all data, the result showed no differences with age. Implications of these findings as an indicator for normal development and language intervention were discussed.
